    Hi Chelsey!

Thanks for reaching out and thanks for the GREAT artonot tip! I don’t think I’ve covered photography on this blog yet, but you can be sure that a post on the topic is already in the making since there is clearly room for debate :-)

Since I am not yet considered a true “authority” on what art is or isn’t I probably wouldn’t quote myself in a school paper. That said, one of my deepest beliefs about artwork is that when it comes to art, every human being is entitled to their own opinion, and not one is any more correct than another, especially since museum curators have begun including paintings by 2-year-olds in their galleries and calling them genuine artistic creations.

As far as weather photography goes, I’ve always held the belief that photography itself is an art form, and since weather photography is a subcategory of photography in general, I consider THAT art as well, simply by extension. I am not sure why I judge these things the way I do, but I don’t recall ever personally questioning the practice of photography for some reason and think that many of the photographic works I’ve seen answer very well to both the Elements and the Principles of Art, and add significant cultural value to our societies, which cannot be captured or replicated using any other media, if that makes any sense at all :-)

Of course, all these things depend on what you personally define to be art or artistic, or the definition that’s given to you by your assignment, if any.

If you do decide to use any of my comments in your paper, just make sure you attribute them to “Dmitry of Artonot.com” and best of luck!

    Hope this helps,
    Dima
