why why why does this website exist
why must you use words like artsy in a legitimate context
this is not definitive
how could you use a definition from dictionary.com as your source?
how could you?
this is very disturbing.

yes it's art

you're just saying...what?

and as far as the other questions where's the art? you won't find it out of context.
but where is the 'artistry'? the process? in supply and demand terms the 'value,' because it can only be done once or a few times: those prints weren't photoshopped. andy warhol didn't have a computer.

why do you need a 'picture' of campbells soup can?
read a book
my opinion: it needed to be bought by 'high art' collectors at an extremely high price in order to complete the absurd gesture that was meant to be the opposite of and the same thing as the absurdity he was responding to: american consumerism.

why isn't the "value" of this object easily defined? because andy warhol rendered transparent the former (more) straightforward, predictable value system placed on art objects AND pop objects up to that point.

YOUR ABILITY TO ASK THE QUESTION "IS THIS ART? WHY DOES THIS NEED TO EXIST?" YOU OWE TO HIM.

he started the conversation, and he knew art history. please don't end it with ignorance

I wish more people were like Mr. George Clooney. What he has done to help the Haitian people is just amazing. So many of the Hollywood celebrities are just phonies looking for publicity. George is one of the true greats.

This site reminds me a lot of the "degenerate" art show held by Hitler in nazi Germany. The nazis had very strong feelings about what was art and what was not. Nazis criticized abstract expressionism, any non-representationalism, jewish art, in fact they really only liked german propaganda art that they didn't have to think about too hard. The truth is, any time people think they have the rite to "objectively" JUDGE art they run the risk of trampling other's personal freedom's in the process. The best part about art as a field is that it is extremely subjective. When I say " I don't like Monet or Van Gough", thats fine as long as I qualify my statement with "I dont like...." The difference between my statement and Hitler saying that he didn't like abstract expressionism is that Hitler was saying that objectively. This website runs the risk of following a well established trail of anti-intellectual oppression of creative thought. If you don't "get a piece of art" thats fine just move on to the next piece.

I am not sure what you think a carpenter is but I would define someone who is able to make an intricate piece of furniture out of wood, make it functional, original and stylistic is not just a carpenter but a good carpenter. I, being a carpenter, kindly ask whoever wrote the above statement to read up on furniture design, art history, maybe a dictionary, before they criticize the hard work of others. Criticizing someone as a "wannabe artist" is not only in and of itself an oxymoronic statement, it makes you sound un-intelligent or worse; a jack-ass. So please lets keep the art criticism intelligent and well articulated. Ok?
