The Lafayette Building in downtown Detroit is about to get demolished. A lot of art (or not) will, unfortunately, have to go down with it. See for yourself. Is this stuff worth keeping around? If yes, then at what cost?

Is riding a bike an art form?

I hope we can all agree that performing arts is still an art… sort of. But does THIS qualify? A recent Mirror article covered “artistic cycling” which reminds me of figure skating, on bikes! It’s an activity that seems to be somewhat popular in Asia. I wouldn’t call this a type of art per se, but you be the judge. The video below is very relevant, showing an artistic cycling performance from the tenth annual Asian Indoor Cycling Championship. Two guys, two bikes, and a lot of riding around. Cool? Yes. Artistic? I don’t think so…

Lawn Graphics. Art or Not?

The latest summer fad sweeping homes and neighborhoods all over the nation.

Someone thought it would be cute to spray paint the grass in front of your house and charge you money for it. I hope this stuff washes off without having to replant the front yard…

Crop circles – spooky, but artsy too!

Crop circle making has got to be some of the weirdest art in the world. But art it is, at least in our opinion. Today, the Telegraph ran a story about the first ever jellyfish-looking crop circle found in Oxfordshire, England, seen below. Pretty amazing, wouldn’t you agree?

Street Sign Art

Just when I thought I had seen every kind of street art there is, signtologist of Denver comes up with yet another way of decorating trivial public property. It’s catchy, original, and it’s way easier on the eyes than a damn STOP SIGN (especially while driving). Only one question remains… is this truly bona fide art, or not? You be the judge.

We’ve got some more artonot to discuss today. What do ya’ll think of this guy’s work? He uses mirrors in various climates and geographical locations to demonstrate something I can’t quite grasp… But are his little setups truly artistic? He also uses colored sticks to create some weird illusions in various landscapes, and those things really freak me out!

Making street water drains more eye-friendly in Brazil

Looks like the latest fad on the streets of Brazil is to try and decorate storm drains on sidewalks to make them look more comely. As we often do here at Artonot, we must ask, is this an example of true artistic expression, or just more wannabe artists having too much time on their hands? What do you think? Best thing to come out of Brazil since Cidade de Deus and Ronaldinho, or not quite?
