Are these at all artistic? This is a topic that has been bugging me for some time. Some of these can make you laugh and cry. Although not wholly original, the combination of text and pictures can result in really clever images that catch on around various internet subcultures like wildfire. Some of my favorites are shown below. What do you think? ART???

MOARpheus is the best…

Last but not least:

ARTWORK IN PROGRESS!

VERDICT: Art if there ever was any!
Ok, sandcastles are pretty awesome, so if this isn’t artwork, I don’t know what is.

Our Verdict: TOTALLY ART!
Listen, I like riding up and down the elevator at Toronto’s CN Tower as much as the next guy (which is almost as much as I’d enjoy caressing another man’s shaft), but most skyscrapers are nothing but phallic symbols. Admit it, you know its true. As such, they are, by definition PR0N, NOT artwork. At artonot.com we will go by the rule that anything that even remotely resembles a p3n1s cannot be considered truly artistic, at least in our hugely unpopular opinion, that is. Here’s one of the more prominent examples of architectural pr0n, enjoy:

Our Verdict: BLATANT UNART.
Leave it to the Russians to come up with something like this and call it a masterpiece… First saw this at EnglishRussia.com this morning

Our Verdict: ART!
This peculiar object on my college campus is what had originally inspired me to create this website. Perhaps by virtue of inspiring others to create, it should be classified as “art” by default. I do want to put it to the test here, however, and see what other people think.
This thing is huge by the way, about 1o to 12 feet tall. If you try and spin it, it will go fast enough to give anyone a concussion if they try to get close. Hence, it’s a menace to public safety, takes up a lot of space, and blocks the view of the building behind it… which doesn’t really look that nice anyway… In other words, it MUST be art to rationalize its own existence.

Our verdict: ART
