my art, my city… in Detroit, ruin into Art

This one’s from a while back. Interesting happenings in the streets of Detroit. When you’ve got nothing to do, might as well become an artist…

Mr. Elliott likes to burn things, in an artistic sort of way. I don’t know what to make of this, but check out his gallery to find out more.

Urban window art gets destroyed along with abandoned buildings in Detroit.

Posted in art on December 22nd, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

The Lafayette Building in downtown Detroit is about to get demolished. A lot of art (or not) will, unfortunately, have to go down with it. See for yourself. Is this stuff worth keeping around? If yes, then at what cost?

Andy Warhol. Artist?

Picture of a can of soup? Why not just use a camera? Wait a second, why do you need a picture of a soup can in the first place?

Jackson Pollock: Artist or Fartist?

Posted in art on May 16th, 2009 by admin – 4 Comments

Something about this guy and his artistry always bothered me. While some critics call his paintings masterpieces of abstract expressionism, I think they look more like vomit patches. Artistic? Hardly. That said, one of the best things about art is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion :-)

So you can be your own judge :-)

Artonot #33: I give you Joan Miro, creator of the world’s biggest fork

This is why you don’t trip on acid while sculpting. Chicagoans seem to like this sort of waste of space and obstruction of public sidewalks, they put it in front of their Cook County administration building. To each his own.

Also by Miro, portrait of gay chicken:

Our Verdict: what a fraud…

Hope you enjoy the modern art…

Artonot #13: Do you REALLY think your kids are artists? Well do ya???

Posted in art on April 20th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

OMG, we just HAD to borrow one of the maddox classics and review it here. Listen, whatever your child’s 3rd grade art teacher tells you, your kids can’t draw for sh*t. The following picture is very much appropriate since we just celebrated Easter a week or so ago. I’m not sure if those three things at the bottom should be eggs, bunnies, or both… Good luck figuring this one out… and no hard feelings, we’re sure your 9-year-old will never find this website…

Our Verdict: Artist in training, but not quite there yet…
