Artonot #3: Anish Kapoor, Sculptor or bullshit artist?

Posted in art on April 18th, 2009 by admin – 1 Comment

Kapoor dubbed his shiny sculpture for Chicago’s Millennium Park “Cloud Gate” To most Chicagoans, it is simply known as “the bean” The maker of the 125-tonne legume is known for a similar work in New York City called “Sky Mirror” which reflects and inverts the skyline of the town if you look at it… Big Whoop, I bet most women can do that with their palm-sized cosmetic mirrors anyway…

Artonot #2: Artwork, or a bunch of orange painted rails?

Here’s another sculpture-looking thingie that one day appeared out of nowhere on my college campus. The plaque says it’s called “Orion”, whatever that means. I have no idea what it’s supposed to symbolize or or wtf it’s doing in the middle of campus. From where I stand, it just looks useless and stupid.

Artonot #1: Big black cube you can spin..

Posted in art on April 18th, 2009 by admin – 1 Comment

This peculiar object on my college campus is what had originally inspired me to create this website. Perhaps by virtue of inspiring others to create, it should be classified as “art” by default. I do want to put it to the test here, however, and see what other people think.

This thing is huge by the way, about 1o to 12 feet tall. If you try and spin it, it will go fast enough to give anyone a concussion if they try to get close. Hence, it’s a menace to public safety, takes up a lot of space, and blocks the view of the building behind it… which doesn’t really look that nice anyway… In other words, it MUST be art to rationalize its own existence.
